New Fun Stuff!

So there are two new things about this post. One is that I’ve uploaded the image to Picasa Web rather than Blogger. I’m doing this in hopes that the image will show up in RSS feeds. Blogger’s inability to show images they are hosting in feeds is still bothering the heck out of me. While I really like the feature of being able to upload something directly from Picasa into a blog post, it’s a crippled blog post. I wish the Picasa folks and the Blogger folks could just get together and work this out. Don’t they all work for the same company now?

The other new thing is that I got a monitor calibration device and my monitor is now calibrated. I’m going to try getting a print or two made by Printroom.com, one of the few online photo printers who will deal with color profiles. My past experiences with printers have yielded a lot of bad color.

I’m a little sick and loopy in the head right now, so here’s hoping that my writing is lucid.

UPDATE: Picasa Web doesn’t allow the pictures either, so my post is still incomplete when you see it in a feed aggregator. The only one that shows up is the one I host. Damn you, dreaded http 403! I think I’m going to move the whole deal to the server my website is on.

Beer Panorama

I spent some time today experimenting with photo stitching. This is my third one of the day and is composed of four photographs. Hopefully my stitching lines aren’t too visible.

The giant queue is people waiting to get in to the Great Taste of the Midwest (aka Beerfest).

Morning

I recently read an article on using color filters when doing black and white photography and I wanted to try out some of the techniques. This is the result.

In other news, I’m thinking of moving this blog off Blogger soon. I just recently found out that the servers for this site won’t allow externally linked images, even in RSS aggregators. I can understand how people would decide to not allow hotlinking from other pages, but not allowing RSS aggregators to do it just seems silly. You’re already feeding someone all the content of a entry, but you want to force them to load the webpage to see the images? That actually costs you more in bandwidth. If the justification there is that the webpage will have the Blogger banner, then perhaps the RSS feeds need Blogger ads in them.

Either way, crippled RSS feeds are non-optimal. In a photo blog, pictures are the whole point. Posted by Picasa

First Lightroom tests

I published this once via Picasa and the window just went away and there was no status bar or anything. We’ll see how it goes this time. Posted by Picasa
