forgive me for asking, but who the hell is Sheldon Brown?
Give a man a fire, and he will stay warm for a day.
Set a man on fire, he stays warm for the rest of his life.

How Trackback Works
How Trackback Works: “When I go back to Martin’s site, you see the change.
It now says TrackBack(1) instead of (0).”
I’ve been wondering what the trackback links meant, just never looked into it. Nifty. I like it.

del.icio.us
del.icio.us
I just signed up for this. I had thought about writing software to do this for me, but why bother if it already exists? Although I guess I tried rewriting the book when I wrote my blogging software, but that was largely a learning exercise. But the del.icio.us looks neat. Although I’m not really interested in the social aspect of it. At least not yet. I really just wanted a nice way to manage bookmarks between computers. There are a lot of things I like to manage between computers. I’d like to have one nice interface to all of them. Like an online computer with an OS that I use through a browser. With built in file sharing/link sharing/email checking.
Another idea that I like is something that allows you to exert your online influence in many ways at once. Something that could let you post to a few message boards at one time. Or a few message boards and a blog. Or two. Eventually, it could parse comments and replies and bring those to you as well. I suppose it would be some sort of meta-social-web program. I have thought about writing software that would do that just for ubb et al. There were a lot of times where I wanted to post the same thing to a couple of different places and not have to check each one. Perhaps it could be sort of like an rss aggregator for forums. You’d have to define a custom module for each different type of forum software you wanted to post to/scrape from, though.

Books!
I’d like to read some of these some time. I have a long queue of books to read at the moment, though.

Circuit Bending
I did some Circuit Bending yesterday. It was a lot of fun and I got some crazy noises without too much frustration or work. I only had to break a little plastic. I post a link to some results that I recorded as soon as they’re ready.

Amazon.com: DVD: NewsRadio - The Complete First & Second Seasons (1995)
Amazon.com: DVD: NewsRadio - The Complete First & Second Seasons (1995): “This set brings together the first two seasons. It starts off with Dave (Dave Foley) being hired as the new Program Director for a New York all news radio station. First, he has to fire the old PD, and make nice with the reporter (Maura Tierney) who wanted the job.
Some of the early episodes only hint at what the characters would become. Jimmy James (Stephen Root) starts out far less wacky than the character became by the fifth season. Phil Hartman’s Bill McNeil was brilliant out the blocks. Matthew (Andy Dick) was annoying right from the beginning. MIA from the pilot is Joe Garrelli (Joe Rogan) who joined in the second episode.”
This is one of my favorite shows. Matt and Brian and I used to watch it all the time when we lived together. I can’t wait until it comes out.

Magnetic Stripe Reader
I think this is great. I’m gonna have to try it myself. It shouldn’t be too hard to get a hardware device that does this. The next step would be to get a magnetic stripe writer.

So I think
I think that I may begin using this. I will aggregate things from other blogs that I think are particularly interesting. I have a personal blog that I use to describe what I do daily. It’s mainly a reference for myself and the 2-3 friends that read it. I also have a work blog that I write about things I do at work. But I suppose that this will be more of a blog blog. Eventually I’ll have a meta-blog.
